Privacy policy

1. Who we are

ChairAtlas is an independent reference site for ergonomic office chair specifications and comparisons, based in the United Kingdom. We are not a manufacturer, dealer, or authorised retailer.

For UK data protection law, we are the data controller for personal data processed through the Website.

2. What this policy covers

This policy covers personal data we process about visitors to the Website. It does not cover third-party websites you visit via our links (for example manufacturers, refurbished dealers, or marketplaces such as eBay). Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Cookie details are summarised in section 5 and set out more fully in our cookie policy. Affiliate link practices are also described in our affiliate disclosure.

3. Information we collect

You can browse the Website without creating an account. We do not run a user login, newsletter signup, or mailing list on our own servers.

3.1 Analytics and technical data

In production we use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the Website is used. This may include aggregated or pseudonymous metrics such as page views, approximate location, device/browser type, referring pages, and interaction events. Google may process this data as described in its own policies.

Our hosting and delivery providers (for example Vercel and DNS providers) may also process standard server or security logs, which can include IP address, request timestamps, and user-agent strings, as needed to operate and protect the Website.

3.2 Information stored only on your device

Some features save preferences in your browser (typically via localStorage), for example:

• chairs you add to Compare;
• height and weight values you enter in the fit calculator.

That information stays on your device and is not sent to our servers by default. Clearing site data in your browser removes it.

3.3 Information we do not intentionally collect

We do not ask for your name, address, phone number, payment card details, or date of birth. The Website does not process purchases or hold account balances.

4. How we use your data and lawful bases

We use personal data to:

1. Provide and operate the Website;
2. Understand traffic and improve content and usability;
3. Keep the Website secure (prevent abuse, debug faults, protect infrastructure);
4. Attribute affiliate referrals when you click outbound partner links; and
5. Comply with law where we must keep or disclose information.

Lawful bases under UK GDPR typically include:

• Legitimate interests — running and securing the Website, understanding traffic, and improving content, where those interests are not overridden by your rights;
• Consent — where required for non-essential cookies or similar technologies (you can also control cookies through your browser; see the cookie policy);
• Legal obligation — where applicable.

We do not use your data for email marketing.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. On the Website we (and our partners) may use cookies or similar technologies for analytics and affiliate measurement. Browser localStorage is also used for Compare and fit preferences as described above.

See our cookie policy for categories, examples, and how to control them. Blocking some cookies may affect measurement or outbound tracking, but core browsing of specs and guides should still work.

6. Affiliate marketing and external links

The Website contains links to third-party sites, including manufacturers, refurbished dealers, and marketplaces.

We participate in affiliate programmes, including (without limitation) the eBay Partner Network (EPN) and Commission Junction (CJ), and may also use networks such as Impact, Awin, Amazon Associates, or direct partner programmes where relevant.

• When you click an outbound partner link, the affiliate network or its tracking partner may use cookies or similar technology to attribute the visit or purchase.
• We may earn a commission at no extra cost to you if you buy through those links.
• We do not control the privacy practices of those third-party sites. Please read their policies before purchasing.

7. Embedded content

Pages may include content hosted by us or, occasionally, embedded content from other sites (for example maps, videos, or widgets). Embedded third-party content behaves as if you visited that site directly and may set cookies or collect data according to that party’s policy.

8. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data.

We use service providers (“processors”) to run the Website. They process data as needed to provide their service. This may include:

• website hosting and delivery (for example Vercel);
• DNS and edge providers used to serve the domain;
• Google Analytics;
• affiliate networks (when you click tracked links), including EPN and CJ.

These providers may process data in the UK, European Economic Area, United States, or other countries. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards described in the providers’ terms (such as standard contractual clauses), where required.

We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect the security and integrity of the Website.

9. How long we keep data

• Website analytics — retained according to Google Analytics settings and Google’s policies (often in aggregated or pseudonymous form).
• Hosting / security logs — kept only as long as reasonably needed for operations, security, and diagnostics.
• Compare and fit preferences — retained in your browser until you clear them or change them.
• Affiliate attribution cookies — controlled by the relevant affiliate network’s own retention periods after you click a tracked link.

10. Your rights (UK GDPR)

Under UK GDPR you may have the right to:

• access your personal data;
• correct inaccurate data;
• erase data in certain circumstances;
• restrict or object to certain processing;
• data portability (where applicable);
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
• complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

To exercise your rights, email privacy@chairatlas.co. Because we do not operate user accounts, many requests relate to analytics identifiers or hosting logs rather than a named profile. We will respond within the time limits required by law.

11. Children’s privacy

The Website is aimed at adults researching office seating. It is not directed at children. If you believe we have collected personal data from a child, contact us and we will delete it where appropriate.

12. Security

We use reputable providers and technical measures appropriate to a small informational site (including encrypted connections via HTTPS and access controls on hosting accounts). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Significant changes may also be highlighted on the Website.
